Stockport to: Stpckport
This is a nice hour ride on a big sports bike (may take considerably longer on anything else) First jump on M60 clokwise from Stockport TC (By the Pyramid) Jump off at next exit A34 Follow this new dual carrage way (lots of nice flip flop roundabouts to get you in the mood) Till the last roundabout Head left for Congleton (Still A34) Follow this untill just before Congleton (Fast and twisty) Then follow Macclesfield signs A536 (not so great surface and one or 2 corners which may catch you out, You have been warned) As you enter Macclesfiled Exit on the Sylk road for Leek A523(ignore the Cat & Fiddle, Too much Police) This road is amazing and well worth a long journey (Just watch out for 2 Cameras in a small 30mph Village!) When you get to Leek, follow signs for Buxton A54 (Also an amazing roller coaster of a road, no cameras, No problems!) From Buxton take the old road A5004 Long Hill into whalley Bridge and follow the traffic clogged A6 back to Stockport. Job Done!!!
Chippenham to: Warwick
A long fast road, perfect if you want to get between bristol region and swindon and vice versa without goin down the tedious m5 or use a thousand different a roads. Be aware there are a few of those government revenue builders oh yeah 'safety' cameras, but if your ridin two up you should invest in a 2006 AA road atlas. It has all the speed camera locations, and its amazing how invisible it makes your plate. But this is the road i take going between my residence in chippenham and my family up in halifax, its about a third of my journey, not including my detours to the Cat an fiddle on the A537 (a definite road to check out). Have fun however if your doing it at night you may want to keep your lights on full and look behind those trucks! Iv'e personally had to go around the side of a truck on a long swooping left, because of a boy racer in his saxo overtaking the truck exactly where i should be passing. So check it out and have fun. (the AA cloaking device works just aswell on any road!)
Guisborough to: Whitby.
The A171 from Middlesbrough to Whitby now bypasses Guisborough but it's worth starting this ride in this picturesque market town. The road leaves Guisborough through farmland and woodlands and the steep 500 ft. climb up on to the North Yorkshire Moors is made at Birk Brow with two tight, tight bends and great views on your left. After the climb, the road swoops down past Lockwood Beck reservoir and starts to unfold before you, plenty of very fast sections with long, sweeping bends as well lots of undulations. Point to note - on the section past Scaling Reservoir, beware speed traps. The Grapes pub is here and it is well worth a stop. The descent into Whitby begins three miles out of town and the view of this beautiful fishing and holiday town laid out beneath you is breathtaking. Drop into town and ride around the West harbour, ending off by ascending the cliff and parking up next to the whalebones. Best fish and chips in town can be found in The Magpie Cafe next to the fishmarket. For the return journey, you are faced with a hard choice. Either reverse the route just taken or take the picturesque but very much slower coastal road, the A 174/3.
Hockliffe to: Luton
Start this ride at Wheels International in Hockliffe, north of Dunstable. It's a mix of scenery and great scratching. Turn right out of the bike shop and right again at the lights for a nice fast windy road to Woburn. Once there turn right into woburn Park and stick to the limit through the grounds (watch for cattle grids). Come out the other end into some great twisty country lane with excellent visibility (possibly some deer/horses on this stretch). You will come to a fork in the road after a couple of miles, Take the right fork to Tingrith (You can go left if you want some suicidal tight hilly bends, This will take you to Flitwick but you wont want to stay there for long :-) Once in Tingrith keep bearing right until you come under the M1 to the A6120 Go straight across this rd and keep bearing left towards Sharpenhoe. Eventually you will reach the A6 which is as fast as you want South towards Luton. The whole journey has virtually no traffic or gatzo's and the roads are old but great through a mix of fields and woodland. I've done this route in the wet and dry with no problems. Turn back to Hockliffe and you can have a hot choccy or coffe and a fag in the bike shop while deciding on your next dream machine Or turn off the A6 into Barton le-clay and take the astounding Hexton road to Hitchin which has been beautifully re-surfaced just for your pleasure.
