A702

Edinburgh to: Moffat

Phenomenal road. It's very fast with some brilliant twisty bits. A few villages on the way, but nothing to slow you down for too long. This is one of God's own roads! Not much plod presence either, except for the last 5-8 miles or so before you hit Moffat. But you can pretty well see for miles on that stretch so it ain't too risky. And for some reason, it's even better on the return journey.

A828-A861

Fort William to: Ballachulish-Oban

OK, I do like the Cat and Fiddle, but lets get this straight, there is no road on earth, even Route 1 in the US, that comes close to the stretch from Ballachulish to Oban. Twisty? You get sweaty just bimbling along, there are virtually NO straights at all on this road, yet there is also next to no traffic most of the time. The section from Fort William is absolutely fabulous if you enjoy high speed cornering, er, very high speed, like close to the top end of a modern sportbike, so I am told, of course...

After Ballachulish, tighten up those sliders and drop your shoulders and bend your arms and get ready for a workout...some really grippy surfaces (tho some are really, really shite in the damp), interesting blind corners, great crests for wheelying - normally crossed up, making you feel a right hero, even though it just sort of happens anyway...

There is one section, and I can't remember exactly where, along the coast, where the road goes out into the sea almost, in little penisulas which are made up of 230 degrees corners (yes, they DO come back on themselves) of a constant radius, taken at a reasonable (above 60) pace. There are about 8 of these all in a row on FLAT grippy tarmac, try not to faint with pleasure...you need spare sliders for the return journey, or even half-way through...

N/A A47

Kibworth to: Uppingham & Back

Start at the Rose & Crown Pub in Kibworth Harcourt, point your bike towards Market Harborough and take the first left (200yds) end of the road go left then first right. Nice country road, twisty and fast, watch out for tractors and horses! Follow road to the end then go left towards Melton Mowbray. Faster country road with nice surface. 4 Miles turn right on the A47 towards Uppingham. Head down here and ride like the possesed. First roundabout is about 10 miles along A47, turn right towards Uppingham, failure to get knee burnt here results in an instant failure!! Take your time through Uppingham, lots of pedestrians, and for some reason they like to jump out in front of you! Straight through the lights, down the hill, private school area, take your time, when you reach the top of the other side GLF. Plenty of bends, nice road surface, great view of Eyebrook Res'r. Head towards Corby. Watch out for the traffice lights over narrow bridge, easy to miss as the adrenalin is still pumping. After the lights is the mad mile (you will know when you see it) dead straight and top speed here was 150 (so I heard). Slow throught Rockingham and head towards Market Harborough. The Roundabout before Harborough gives you the option of mad bypass speed or show of the bike throught Market Harborough, looking in the shop window and thinking wow I look good. A6 towards Kibworth and hey presto your back where you started from with a stupid smile on your face.... I ride the CBR600F.... Nice for the journey

A429 Fosseway

Chippenham to: Warwick

A long fast road, perfect if you want to get between bristol region and swindon and vice versa without goin down the tedious m5 or use a thousand different a roads. Be aware there are a few of those government revenue builders oh yeah 'safety' cameras, but if your ridin two up you should invest in a 2006 AA road atlas. It has all the speed camera locations, and its amazing how invisible it makes your plate. But this is the road i take going between my residence in chippenham and my family up in halifax, its about a third of my journey, not including my detours to the Cat an fiddle on the A537 (a definite road to check out). Have fun however if your doing it at night you may want to keep your lights on full and look behind those trucks! Iv'e personally had to go around the side of a truck on a long swooping left, because of a boy racer in his saxo overtaking the truck exactly where i should be passing. So check it out and have fun. (the AA cloaking device works just aswell on any road!)
