Stockport to: Stpckport
This is a nice hour ride on a big sports bike (may take considerably longer on anything else) First jump on M60 clokwise from Stockport TC (By the Pyramid) Jump off at next exit A34 Follow this new dual carrage way (lots of nice flip flop roundabouts to get you in the mood) Till the last roundabout Head left for Congleton (Still A34) Follow this untill just before Congleton (Fast and twisty) Then follow Macclesfield signs A536 (not so great surface and one or 2 corners which may catch you out, You have been warned) As you enter Macclesfiled Exit on the Sylk road for Leek A523(ignore the Cat & Fiddle, Too much Police) This road is amazing and well worth a long journey (Just watch out for 2 Cameras in a small 30mph Village!) When you get to Leek, follow signs for Buxton A54 (Also an amazing roller coaster of a road, no cameras, No problems!) From Buxton take the old road A5004 Long Hill into whalley Bridge and follow the traffic clogged A6 back to Stockport. Job Done!!!
Newbury to: Swindon
Starting from Newbury take the A4 to Hungerford. The road can be busy but there are many wonderful overtaking opportunities, wide and with good vision. Leave Hungerford on the A4 towards Marlborough but quickly turn right onto the B4192. I did this on a Saturday at 11am and there was very little traffic, just some great straights, a couple of very pretty villages and enough bends to satisfy those much braver than me. The only trouble is you end up in Swindon but you can then go up to Faringdon on the A420, to Wantage on the A417 and then back to Newbury via the B4494, a great road. The whole journey is about 45 miles with lots of stopping off places.
Chipping Sodbury to: Cricklade
Basically two completely different stretches of road, bisected by Malmesbury in the middle. From the A46 ( Chipping Sodbury end) to Malmesbury has numerous 'dogleg' corners with a couple of 'ton up' straights. Plenty of 'technical corners' after that. From Malmesbury, take the 1 mile long bypass tothe next roundabout and rejoin the B4040 and on to Cricklade and the Cotswolds Water Parks if you want to try Jetskiing. This is the best bit!!! First straight is followed by a very technical section, including a 90 degree turn, a humpback bridge( together, but all visible) and a wooded section with sweeping curves and 'damp spots'. Great straights from here on to Cricklade. No Gatso's or Cop's in 4 years of nailing it. Never speed in the villages please! if you want a different return journey, try the B4040 back to Malmesbury, then take the B4014 to Tetbury and then the A433 ( past Charlie's house at Highgrove near Westonbirt) and A46 back to Bath. Another amazing ride in itself.
Kibworth to: Uppingham & Back
Start at the Rose & Crown Pub in Kibworth Harcourt, point your bike towards Market Harborough and take the first left (200yds) end of the road go left then first right. Nice country road, twisty and fast, watch out for tractors and horses! Follow road to the end then go left towards Melton Mowbray. Faster country road with nice surface. 4 Miles turn right on the A47 towards Uppingham. Head down here and ride like the possesed. First roundabout is about 10 miles along A47, turn right towards Uppingham, failure to get knee burnt here results in an instant failure!! Take your time through Uppingham, lots of pedestrians, and for some reason they like to jump out in front of you! Straight through the lights, down the hill, private school area, take your time, when you reach the top of the other side GLF. Plenty of bends, nice road surface, great view of Eyebrook Res'r. Head towards Corby. Watch out for the traffice lights over narrow bridge, easy to miss as the adrenalin is still pumping. After the lights is the mad mile (you will know when you see it) dead straight and top speed here was 150 (so I heard). Slow throught Rockingham and head towards Market Harborough. The Roundabout before Harborough gives you the option of mad bypass speed or show of the bike throught Market Harborough, looking in the shop window and thinking wow I look good. A6 towards Kibworth and hey presto your back where you started from with a stupid smile on your face.... I ride the CBR600F.... Nice for the journey
